Twirl

My new fabric finally arrived in the mail this weekend!  I ordered "Twirl" by Me and My Sister.  I thought this would be the perfect fabric for Olivia's birthday quilt.  It has butterflies to match her room and it also has her favorite color, purple.

The back of the quilt is going to have white flowers with a purple background.  The white with pink dots is for the binding.

Here's another look at all the different patterns in this fabric line...cute!

I cut some of the backing to make 10" squares to include on the front of the quilt.

Next, I had to match up two different pieces and pin them together.  I have 42 blocks in all.

Here are all of my pinned pairs ready to be cut.

I had to cut them into three separate sections...3", 2" and 5" pieces.  Then I had to trade the 2" strips in the middle.  So they turned out like this:

Here are the blocks I have finished.

So far, Mike and I have decided that we like this square the best...purple with the pink wavy lines in the middle.

Although...this one's awful cute too!  I can't wait to see it all put together!

I'll post more blocks as I finish them.  I hope you like the fabric!

What would we do without Patty?

I was listening to Patty Griffin just now and came across this video posted by someone on Youtube.  My eyes immediately teared up...it's been a long time since I've heard this song.  But, somehow it was fitting today with the news of Allie L.'s passing.  Of course, I always think of dad when I hear this song.  I hope it doesn't make you too sad listening to this.  In a way it always kind of makes me feel better, knowing that I am not alone.  That I am not the only person who has ever experienced loss.  By the way, last night I had a dream and dad was in it.  Hasn't happened in a while...synchronicity?

Rocky Mountain High

Here are some of the pictures I took in Colorado over Christmas break.  A beautiful day.
A little something to listen to while you look at the pictures!  Enjoy!
The mountains and sky in the background look like a painting to me.
The only thing missing is some deer...
Oh, wait! Here they are!
Cozy! All I need is some hot cocoa and a good book!
Awesome! Makes you feel so small.
So windy out and the snow is like powder. (Too bad my camera strap got in the picture. Ugh!)
I never get tired of looking at the mountains.

Look Mike!  Up on Cripple Creek! (Sorry...I couldn't find the Crystal Chateau to get a pic for you.) Wait!  Is that Sully over there by the tree?!
I just had to include this picture. Abby's bird mobile turned out so cool! Sweet dreams!

Contentment

OK. If anyone out there is reading my blog (other than my mom that is) you probably have noticed that I have this chronic problem...I keep changing my template design.  It's not that I don't like the template that I have, it's just I keep thinking I can make it look better. Something just isn't right...yet.  I have tried switching colors, designs, formats, etc. and each time I like how it looks.  However, after a few weeks (or sometimes even a few days) I suddenly change my mind and search for something else that I think represents my personality better. Well the search is finally over!  I promise I have found the perfect fit for my blog.  The pretty blue and grey flowers will remain.  And if you are asking yourself why is this the perfect fit for me?  Well, I finally realized why I was drawn to this particular template...because it reminds me of my Skye girl (see picture to the right)!  She is a blue merle...grey, white and black fur with one blue eye.  Pretty cool!  Ahhhhhh...contentment at last!

Stephen King Rocks!

Check it out! Listen to the introduction of the book here:

Along the same line as my last post, I thought I'd share my latest read...Stephen King's 11/22/63.  What a fantastic story! I can't say enough about this book. It was definitely hard to put down. The characters and plot kept me busy on my flight to and from Colorado Springs.  I know it is a long read, but well worth the time!

MLK

This is one of my favorite songs. I thought it was appropriate to share this week in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday Monday.  It's so true...it seems like all the good die young.

Peace,
